Welcome to Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. The Jackson Institute was officially dedicated in September 2010.
Founded with a transformational gift from John (’67) and Susan Jackson, the Jackson Institute is the new home of two degree programs— an undergraduate major in Global Affairs that will, this Spring, accept its first cohort of students from Yale College’s Class of 2013 and a Master of Arts program in International Relations.
The Global Affairs major is a selective stand-alone major for Yale College students interested in learning about and impacting the world around them. Students apply for the major in the Spring of their Sophomore year. The major has two tracks—international development (including the field of global health) and international security.
The International Relations Masters degree program now has over a dozen new courses, many taught by leading policy practitioners from around the world as well as by Yale faculty. We have also more than doubled the financial aid offered to students admitted to the IR Program.
Our new career services office supports all Yale students interested in global affairs and provides individualized assistance to Jackson Institute students.
The Jackson Institute is the home on Yale’s campus for engaging and insightful talks by leading figures in current global affairs. We host three speaker series on campus—Jackson Town Hall meetings, the Jackson Senior Fellows Lecture Series, and Jackson Conversations on Leadership. During the Fall 2010 semester, Fareed Zakaria and Paul Krugman hosted Town Hall Meetings and Stan McChrystal and Greg Mortenson kicked off “Conversations on Leadership” in Spring 2011.
The Jackson Institute is proud to appoint several Jackson Senior Fellows every year. Jackson Senior Fellows teach courses and interact regularly with the Jackson students. They bring a fresh and on-the-ground perspective to their teaching, they assist our students with networking opportunities, and they inspire all of us to go out and make a difference.
It’s an exciting time at the Jackson Institute. We hope you will join us.
