The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs hosted a visit by His Excellency Dr. Ray Bassett, Ireland’s ambassador to Canada, on Tuesday, April 26, at 4 pm in the GM Room, Horchow Hall. He discussed “The Troubles and the Good Friday Agreement: The Peace Process Up Close.”

Amb. Bassett has had a long and distinguished diplomatic career, including as a member of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement implementation section. This led directly into his position as Joint Secretary British-Irish Secretariat in Belfast. This was a position at Assistant Secretary-General level and involved coordinating contact with the British government on matters relating to Northern Ireland.

Amb. Bassett has served as ambassador to Canada, Jamaica and the Bahamas since 2010.
