Flynt Leverett is the Director of the Iran project and a Senior Research Fellow at the New America Foundation. He is a leading authority on the Middle East and Persian Gulf, U.S. foreign policy and global energy affairs. He served in a number of senior posts in the U.S. government including as; Senior Director for Middle East Affairs at the National Security Council; counterterrorism expert on the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff; and as a Senior Analyst with the CIA. He has published widely on the impact of energy market trends on international security and the global economy; the politics and political economy of the Middle East and Persian Gulf; and Chinese, Indian, and Russian engagement in the Middle East and Central Asia.
