Josh Vanderlip graduated from the University of Illinois in 2008 with a B.A. in Aviation – Human Factors and was commissioned in the U.S. Army. He deployed to Afghanistan from 2012-2013. Josh later completed a Special Operations assessment and qualification course and served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Company Commander within the United States Army Special Operations Command from 2013 to 2017. During that time, Josh completed multiple deployments in various locations across the world and worked with a range of foreign and domestic Departments of State and Intelligence Agencies. A recipient of a Chief of Staff of the Army Graduate School Initiative, Josh plans to study U.S. national security strategy, diplomacy, and conflict resolution while at Yale. After finishing at the Jackson Institute, Josh will return to the Special Operations community.
