Laura Romero Villamizar holds a Bachelor of Law and a Master in Literature from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. She has carried out academic work related to literary representations of identity and cultural imaginaries regarding human rights. For over three years, she worked at Occidental Petroleum’s subsidiary in Colombia (Oxy Colombia), where she participated in the design and implementation of a strategy to enforce United Nations Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights, as well as other international human rights standards. She has gained experience in human rights risk and impact assessments and in developing innovative human rights due diligence practices.
 
Laura has also gained experience in evaluating and addressing challenges business enterprises face when operating in regions with complex social, institutional, and public order conditions. At Oxy Colombia, Laura worked in developing and implementing peace-building strategies hand in hand with Colombian government agencies. Her interests include public policy tools and institutional designs aimed at enhancing public and private cooperation for state building in post-conflict scenarios.
