Global Health Awards for Research
Funded by the Yale College Fellowships for Research in Global Health Studies, Global Health Field Experience, and Global Health Seed Funding grants, these awards provide support for original undergraduate research projects in global health studies, including the study of the social, political, economic and biological determinants of health.
Proposed research projects can be undertaken in the lab or in the field, and fall within the biological sciences, the social sciences, or the humanities. They should aim to strengthen the student’s relevant skills in global health and be situated in ethical partnerships with scholars and communities in ways that raise awareness or contribute to improving human health.
Global Health Awards for Internships or Non-Research Projects
The program supports students committed to global health as they take their first steps toward becoming practitioners, leaders and advocates in the field. Proposed projects should be connected to the student's personal and professional development in terms of strengthening relevant skills and gaining an understanding of how different players and approaches contribute to improving health worldwide. Students may develop projects in a variety of areas, including but not limited to practice, advocacy, or policy and management.
The proposed project must be a full-time and exclusive occupation for a continuous period of eight weeks or more. Only Yale sophomores and juniors are eligible.
Leadership in Global Health Fellowship
The Leadership in Global Health Fellowship prepares the future generation of global health leaders through a program that includes placement in a fellowship with a large organization focused on global health and development. Past placements have included GAVI, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, UNICEF, UNDP, and the World Bank.
Through a competitive application process, the Yale Institute of Global Health (YIGH) selects Yale students and trainees from across campus to participate in the program. To prepare for the fellowship, students participate in an orientation program focused on building relationships within the group, learning about the institutional landscape in global health, and discussing key concepts of leadership and professional integrity. Throughout the summer, fellows participate in regular meetings with the YIGH team to reflect on their experience and receive support from program staff. The program concludes in the fall with a final gathering to share reflections on their experiences and lessons learned.
