Gatekeepers: Reflections on White House Chiefs of Staff and Challenges in the Trump Era
The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs will host the conversation, “Gatekeepers: Reflections on White House Chiefs of Staff and Challenges in the Trump Era,” featuring Jackson Senior Fellow John Podesta, who served as White House Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton and as Counselor to President Barack Obama, and Chris Whipple YC ’75, author of the New York Times best-selling book, “The Gatekeepers: How the White House chiefs of staff define every presidency.”This event is open to the general public, but registration is required. Pizza will be served. Podesta served as Chair of Hillary for America. Prior to joining Hillary Clinton’s campaign, he served as Counselor to President Barack Obama.In 2008, he served as co-chair of President Obama’s transition team, where he coordinated the priorities of the incoming administration’s agenda, oversaw the development of its policies, and spearheaded its appointments of major cabinet secretaries and political appointees.Podesta is the former chair of the Washington, D.C.-based think tank Center for American Progress and the Center for American Progress Action Fund. Prior to founding the Center in 2003, Podesta served as White House Chief of Staff to President William J. Clinton.Whipple is a documentary filmmaker, writer and journalist. He has written for Newsweek, Vanity Fair, Politico, the Daily Beast, and many other publications. His next book, The Spymasters: How the CIA Directors Shape History and the Future, will be published in April 2020. He is an on-air contributor at MSNBC, and has written Op-Ed pieces for the New York Times and Washington Post.
