Partner and Head of Climate

FM/Derraik

Pedro Ferreira is a Partner at FM/Derraik Advogados in São Paulo, where he founded and leads the firm's Climate and Impact Investment practice. A corporate lawyer with more than twenty years of experience in M&A and venture capital, he works at the intersection of law, finance and climate, designing the investment structures that make climate and nature-based projects fundable.

Since launching the practice in 2023, Pedro has advised on Nature-based Solutions transactions across the Brazilian Amazon, including blended-finance vehicles for agroforestry, FIAGRO and FIDC fund structures, investment frameworks for conservation projects, and carbon and biodiversity credit arrangements. He advises international investors and development finance institutions on the legal and tax structuring of climate finance instruments, and represents entrepreneurs and fund managers in agroforestry, regenerative ranching and sociobiodiversity ventures. His work is grounded in a clear diagnosis: in Brazil, the bottleneck to climate investment is rarely a lack of capital or of viable projects, but the absence of structures that allow investors to assess and allocate risk.

Pedro began his career as Brazil's venture capital industry was taking shape, helping build many of the legal structures now considered market standard. He coordinates the Corporate Venture Capital Committee of ABVCAP, the Brazilian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, teaches Venture Capital at Link School of Business, and mentors founders through MIT HackBrazil, Endeavor, Artemisia and Liga Ventures. He holds a law degree from PUC-Rio and an LLM in Corporate Law from Ibmec, and completed the Venture Capital & Private Equity Program at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. He believes that just as an earlier generation of lawyers helped build Brazil's venture capital market, the next can build the legal and financial infrastructure its climate economy needs.
