The Permanent Questions, a new podcast from The Atlantic hosted by staff writer and Yale Jackson Presidential Senior Fellow David Brooks, premiered Sunday, September 13, with new episodes appearing every Sunday after that.

Each week, Brooks speaks with the world's deepest thinkers about matters of enduring human concern — questions like how to find purpose, confront mortality, and repair a broken community.

The podcast is produced by The Atlantic, recorded on Yale's campus, and made possible by support from Yale. It will explore the moral, social, and philosophical underpinnings of human decency, with a particular focus on the role institutions play in shaping communities and ideologies.

Brooks joined Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs in February 2026 as a Presidential Senior Fellow, part of a new university initiative to foster respectful debate and bridge the academy with society at large. In that role, he has convened campus conversations and developed public-facing programming, including this podcast, aimed at connecting Yale's scholarship to broader public conversation.
