Maya Wilcox (MC '22) is a Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology major from San Jose, California. Her interest in global health stems from her passion for medicine, service, health equity and education. The intersection of these areas has cultivated her interest in sexual and general health education, especially among women and children. As a doctor, she hopes to be both a healthcare provider and an educator. Through her work as a Community Health Educator with Yale and in New Haven, she has seen first-hand the impact health education can have on children and adolescents. She is especially interested in working with Spanish-speaking communities as she is a native speaker and has spent two years living in Ecuador. At Yale, she is a member of the all-female a cappella group Proof of the Pudding. This summer, she is doing a research project in Ecuador investigating barriers to access of cervical cancer prevention methods.
