Madison “Maddy” Sharp is a fourth-year student at the Yale School of Medicine. Her research interests include gender-based health disparities among refugees and internally displaced people and the impact of climate change on the health outcomes of vulnerable populations. Maddy currently co-chairs the Physicians for Human Rights National Student Advisory Board, where she has helped establish student-run clinics to provide forensic evaluations for asylum seekers. During medical school, she traveled to Jordan to explore the association between depression and chronic disease among female Syrian refugees and host communities. Maddy has also conducted infectious diseases research in Uganda and lived in Nicaragua for a year to investigate an epidemic of chronic kidney disease among sugarcane workers. She earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University. After completing her medical training, Maddy aspires to provide care to displaced populations.
