From a small town in New Jersey, Safia Speer is an Economics major in Berkeley College. Her first experience with Global Health came during a trip to the Amazon, where her parents contributed to an effort to bring medical and school supplies to isolated populations. After working with both an NGO that provides medical care and supplies to Sierra Leone and working at a pharmaceutical company, she became very aware of the discrepancies between those that supply care and those that need it. She hopes to study health economics and healthcare structures to help understand and remedy barriers to care and supplies in global and public health. Outside of academics, she is an Artistic Director of the Yale Ballet Company and a member of A Different Drum Dance Company, and enjoys scuba diving.
