Sandhya Kumar (SY ’23) is a Global Affairs major from Rochester, Minnesota with an interest in utilizing health policy to improve areas of concern in global health. Growing up in a city known for its medical institution, she has long appreciated the importance of health. She was first fascinated by the importance of public health as a youth representative on her county’s public health board. Being introduced to social determinants of health fueled her eagerness to advocate for policy related to critical public health needs. This passion has translated into research investigating clinical trial evidence data supporting FDA approval of novel therapeutic agents, engaging with healthcare legislation as a Congressional intern, and working on assessing global employer-sponsored health plans with a nonprofit. On campus, Sandhya is involved with Yale International Relations Association, serves as treasurer for the Yale South Asian Society, and dances with the Rangeela Bollywood team.
