Melissa McGinnis | Assistant Director of Admissions

Melissa McGinnis is the assistant director of admissions at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. In her role she supports the director of admissions and the mission of Jackson to bring in talented, passionate, and diverse graduate students from all over the world. Prior to Yale, she worked at the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton for 22 years, first as a graduate admissions assistant, then as office manager. Before Princeton, she spent a year and a half supporting students and the Electrical Engineering department chairman at the University of Pennsylvania. Melissa has a B.A. in English from The King’s College and an M.Ed. in college student affairs from Azusa Pacific University. She studied abroad in Spain and has volunteered mentoring young adults and youth in South Africa and New Haven. Pre-COVID she traveled widely for work and for pleasure.

Elizabeth Gill | Director of the Career Development Office

Elizabeth is the director of the Career Development Office at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs.  In her role, she develops programs for and advises students from across campus on careers in global affairs.  Her primary role is working individually with students from Jackson’s M.A. program to assist them in making connections and constructing application materials that help them to meet their career objectives. Prior to starting at Yale with the inception of the Institute in summer 2010, Elizabeth worked at Duke University for 10 years in career services and in study abroad.  She holds an M.A. in liberal studies from Duke University and a B.A. in East Asian studies from the College of Wooster in Ohio.

Lily Sutton | Director of Student Affairs

Lily Sutton is director of student affairs at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, where she is the academic advisor for graduate and undergraduate students and oversees student-organized events and activities. From 2012-2017 she was director of admissions at Yale School of Music, where she was responsible for all aspects of recruitment and enrollment management for the school. Prior to Yale, she held positions as director of admissions at Bard College Conservatory of Music and assistant to the director of the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue , an interdisciplinary arts initiative at New York University. She holds a Master of Education degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Wesleyan University.
