Ahmad Salkida
Ahmad Salkida is a Nigerian investigative journalist and peace advocate and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HumAngle, one of Africa’s fastest-growing innovative newsrooms. With over 24 years of experience reporting on terrorism, insecurity, and development across the Lake Chad Basin, Salkida has become one of the most authoritative voices on the Boko Haram insurgency and the complex humanitarian crises it has spawned.
Driven by a conviction that communication can bridge divides and foster peace, Salkida established HumAngle in 2020 to fill the void in conflict and human security reporting. Under his leadership, the platform has become a leading source of insight for policymakers, humanitarian actors, and scholars, shaping global understanding of one of the world’s most volatile regions. His work has helped international and local organisations navigate conflict zones, manage crises, and design interventions grounded in accurate, human-centred reporting.
Salkida’s journey has been marked by courage and sacrifice – from surviving assassination attempts to enduring exile – yet his resolve has only strengthened. Through HumAngle, he has trained and mentored over 200 journalists, fellows, and interns, pioneering innovative storytelling formats that humanise the cost of war and displacement. Guided by his belief that journalism is a tool for peace and development, Ahmad Salkida continues to use truth-telling as an act of service to heal, inform, and build bridges in a region too often torn apart by fear and misinformation.
