Hussein al-Taee

2026 Peace Fellow

Hussein al-Taee is Head of the Berghof Foundation Regional Office in Lebanon, where he oversees operations across 30 municipalities and manages regional partnerships spanning Iraq and the wider Middle East.

Prior to his current role, Hussein served as a Member of the Finnish Parliament (2019–2023), representing the ruling coalition on the Economic Affairs Committee and contributing to national urban development and climate strategies, including Finland’s ambition toward carbon neutrality by 2030. He also chaired cross-party parliamentary groups on Iraq, the Gulf, and global issues. Concurrently, he was City Councillor and Vice-Chair of the Education Board in Vantaa, Finland’s fourth-largest city, where he co-led municipal education policy and budgeting in the post-COVID era. Earlier in his career, Hussein worked with the CMI–Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation as adviser and project manager, designing and implementing dialogue, governance, and conflict-resolution projects across Iraq and the MENA region.

Hussein holds a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Warsaw and a joint Bachelor’s degree in International Management from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Lincoln. He serves on the Board of Advisers of International IDEA, actively promoting democratic transitions and good governance, and is a recognized public speaker on peacebuilding, governance, and regional stability. Outside of work, he is a husband and father of three, enjoys playing football, and appreciates classical music.
