Jaya Luintel

2026 Peace Fellow

Jaya Luintel is a feminist researcher and narrative justice practitioner from Nepal whose work bridges gender, memory, and peacebuilding in post-conflict contexts. She is the Co-Founder and President of The Story Kitchen, which integrates feminist historiography, oral history, and narrative practice to reclaim silenced stories and democratize collective memory.

Since 2015, she has worked closely with women survivors of conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence from Nepal’s ten-year armed conflict. Drawing on narrative therapy and reflective storytelling, she designs and facilitates spaces for healing and survivor-led advocacy, foregrounding feminist listening as a transformative tool for justice and peace. As a gender expert, Jaya supported Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs in drafting the second phase of the National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820; the first policy document of the Government of Nepal to address the needs of women survivors of conflict-related sexual violence.

Internationally recognized for her contributions to feminist peacebuilding, she and her work received the Tomorrow’s Peacebuilding Award (2016) from Peace Direct for amplifying the voices of women survivors of gender-based violence. She was also listed among the BBC 100 Women (2014), awarded a Global Change Leaders Fellowship by the Coady International Institute (2016), and named an Asia Foundation Development Fellow (2014) and Perennial Fellow (2020). Jaya teaches Men and Masculinities at Tribhuvan University in Nepal and is pursuing a PhD in Applied Conflict Transformation Studies at the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPCS) and Paññasastra University of Cambodia (PUC).
