Asghar Leghari

2024 Climate Fellow

Asghar Leghari is a legal counsel practicing in Pakistan and a Founding Partner at PrimeLegalCo., Advocates & Corporate Counsel. Asghar started his career as a transactional lawyer focusing on projects and infrastructure finance in the energy sector. Thereafter he transitioned primarily into litigation, where also gained considerable experience representing clients in contentious matters before the courts and administrative authorities.  Asghar has been involved in various areas of law, including constitutional and environmental law, and has been a part of various key initiatives. In a pro bono matter before the Lahore High Court, he has also successfully challenged the inaction of the Federal and Provincial Government against climate change, leading to the creation of the Climate Change Commission.  

Asghar has served on the board of a state-owned power distribution company as an independent director and is currently serving an appointment as an Assistant Advocate General in the Office of the Advocate General Punjab and representing the Government before the Green Bench (environmental cases).

Asghar holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from Duke University, School of Law and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the Lahore University of Management Sciences. He graduated from the Duke University School of Law with Latin honors, Cum Laude. He also received recognition from the Duke Law School Pro Bono Program and the North Carolina Bar Association for his work with the Environmental Law and Policy Clinic at Duke Law.
