Iván García Kerdan

2026 Climate Fellow

Dr. Iván García Kerdan is an Associate Professor, Researcher and Head of the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Santa Fe Campus located in Mexico City. His work focuses on developing and applying advanced modelling frameworks to design and optimize energy systems, with an emphasis on urban sustainability, decarbonization pathways, and interdisciplinary solutions.

He previously served as a Research Associate at Imperial College London, where he co-developed the MUSE global energy system model, supported by the Newton Fund and Shell. His research has spanned techno-economic analysis, life-cycle assessment, and the integration of artificial intelligence for energy design.

Prior to his current role, Iván led the MSc program in Sustainable Building Design and Engineering at the University of Greenwich in the UK, and was a postdoctoral fellow at UNAM, applying machine learning to building energy optimization. He has held visiting researcher positions at Imperial College London, the University of São Paulo, and the University of Melbourne.

He has published extensively in leading journals on energy systems, hydrogen, and sustainable buildings, and has secured funding from national and international agencies. At Tecnológico de Monterrey, he directs research and academic initiatives at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and innovation, while mentoring graduate students and fostering collaborations with global partners.

Iván holds a BEng in Mechatronics and an MSc in Energy Engineering from UNAM, and a PhD in Energy Engineering from University College London (UCL).
