Mariana Espécie

Mariana Espécie currently serves as special advisor to the Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil. She co-chaired the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group during Brazil’s presidency in 2024 and represents Brazil on the Mission Innovation Steering Committee. Previously, she was the director of energy transition at the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, where she coordinated the National Hydrogen Program, took part in different senior-level national committees and councils, and was responsible for developing several national policies and programs related to energy transition. She has over 10 years of experience in energy planning and socio-environmental studies related to the energy sector in Brazil, having served as an energy research analyst at the Brazilian Energy Research Office, where she also worked as chief of staff to the presidency, focusing on corporate governance and energy planning. Mariana has a background in biology and holds a PhD in zoology, along with additional degrees in ecology, environmental sciences, and public management.
