Shu Zhang is a seasoned energy analyst and former journalist specializing in global oil markets, energy transition, and the economic and energy dynamics of emerging economies, particularly China and Southeast Asia. Based in Singapore, Shu currently serves as a senior market analyst at Rongsheng Petrochemical, a leading Chinese refining and petrochemical company. She analyzes oil market fundamentals, structural demand shifts, and the evolution of the fossil fuel industry amid the energy transition, supporting trading strategies and strategic downstream investment partnerships in the Middle East and China.

Previously, Shu held analytical roles at S&P Global Commodity Insights and Refinitiv, where she built a strong track record in delivering data-driven oil research, analytics, and forecasts, with a focus on the dynamic East of Suez markets. She frequently shares insights with industry stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making in the energy sector.

Before transitioning to energy analytics, Shu spent nearly seven years as a financial and energy journalist at Reuters News in Beijing and Singapore. She broke market-moving exclusives and authored in-depth features on economic, financial, business, energy, and environmental topics. Her work earned consecutive awards from the China Banking Association for excellence in reporting.

Shu holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Zhejiang University. She is also a chartered financial analyst.
