Muhsina Farhat Chowdhury

Muhsina Farhat Chowdhury is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. She completed her PhD in Law at the University of Warwick in 2026. Her doctoral research, grounded in the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) tradition, examines the “unwilling or unable” state doctrine and its implications for the international law governing self-defense and the use of force. Her research explores how the unwilling or unable doctrine has produced a new conception of hierarchy among states based on their perceived capacity to provide security. She holds an LL.M. in International Law from the University of Cambridge and an LL.B. from BRAC University. Her broader research interests include critical approaches to international law, international criminal law, and self-determination movements.
