About

Naz El-Khatib is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council's Europe Center and a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. A foreign policy strategist with experience across government, business, and the nonprofit sector, he most recently served as senior advisor for policy to the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, helping shape American foreign policy with a particular focus on Asia and Europe. 

Previously, El-Khatib founded and led the foreign policy team at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), overseeing policy for more than $45 billion in investments across over 100 countries. Earlier in his career, he advised senior State Department leaders, worked at McKinsey & Company, Bridgewater Associates, and WilmerHale, and served on President Biden's 2020 transition team. His work focuses on U.S. strategy, international economic statecraft, development finance, and global security.

He earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School. He also holds an M.Phil. in international relations and politics from the University of Cambridge and a B.A. in political science from Yale, where he graduated summa cum laude.
