About

Sóley Kaldal is an operational resilience specialist for Landsbankinn, the largest commercial bank in Iceland and has been a special advisor to the Icelandic National Security Council since it was established, contributing extensively to its publications and coordination symposiums.  

Kaldal has worked for the Icelandic government for the last two decades, first as an academic researcher focusing on risk governance of operations in Arctic waters, then as an analyst and policy advisor at the Icelandic Coast Guard. Later she worked for various Icelandic ministries, including the Prime Ministry and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs where she most notably held the position of lead negotiator of international agreements on fisheries and maritime affairs. Sóley has lived and worked in various Arctic countries, including Iceland, Denmark, Greenland, USA and Sweden.

She earned her MAS in global affairs with a focus on international security from Yale. She also holds an MSc in risk management and safety engineering from Lund University, Sweden, and a BA in philosophy from the University of Iceland.
