Joseph Gayeski studied U.S. foreign policy and national security at Jackson, with a focus on East and Southeast Asia. His interest in the region developed while a Princeton in Asia fellow with the National Democratic Institute (NDI). Joe assisted NDI’s observation of Cambodia’s 2017 local elections in Phnom Penh, then relocated to NDI’s Naypyidaw office to conduct policy research for elected Hluttaw representatives. Joe remained in Myanmar to advise various international organizations and donor agencies on program evaluations. Joe has studied Khmer, Burmese and Chinese, and was awarded the Yale Light Fellowship to complete Mandarin training at National Taiwan University. Joe served as editor-in-chief of the Yale Journal of International Affairs from 2021-2022.
