Staffan de Mistura, a Jackson Senior Fellow who was slated to teach a course at Yale in Spring 2022, has been appointed Envoy to the Western Sahara.
In the new role, de Mistura will provide good offices on behalf of Secretary‑General António Guterres. He will work with all relevant interlocutors, including the parties, neighboring countries and other stakeholders, guided by Security Council resolution 2548 (2020) and other relevant resolutions.
While this means he will not be able to join us this spring, we congratulate him on this exciting new role and look forward to having him teach during the 2022-2023 academic year.
