Alex Pickthall is a Master of Advanced Study (MAS) candidate at Yale. He is originally from the United Kingdom where he has spent the last 14 years serving in the British Army. 

He has served in a multitude of operational theaters, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, and has led soldiers on combat operations as well as having worked in several British embassies alongside various government departments and foreign partners. He was awarded a Military Cross for gallantry on once such deployment. 

While at Yale, he intends to understand those organizations engaged actively in matters of global affairs that are succeeding, how they have changed to do so and what we can learn from industry that can be applied to defense to match their success. He holds a BA in politics from Goldsmith’s College, the University of London.
