Graydon Dennison is a Ph.D. candidate at Temple University under the supervision of Alan McPherson. His dissertation, titled “Spillover: Americans and the Colonization of Panama, 1912-1936,” examines how U.S. state and nonstate actors effectively made the Republic of Panama – and not just the Canal Zone – a U.S. colonial space, and, more specifically, a space typical of settler colonialism practiced around the globe. He has published work in Strategic Visions, the Journal of Military History, World History Connected, and The Latin Americanist. Graydon will be spending the 2023-24 academic year as a Brady-Johnson Predoctoral Fellow with Yale’s International Security Studies.
