Jim Levinsohn, director of the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs and the Charles W. Goodyear Professor in Global Affairs at Yale, was recently elected as the new president of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA).

His term as president began on June 1, 2021 and will run through May 31, 2023.

The vote was unanimous, according to APSIA Executive Director Carmen Iezzi Mezzera, who added, “Yale is one of APSIA’s founding institutions. In this rapidly changing landscape, I look forward to working with Jim and the Executive Committee to continue to help students, schools, and partners transform themselves into more effective agents of positive change.”

“As the convening organization for the world’s top schools of international affairs, APSIA has long been a valued partner of the Jackson Institute,” said Levinsohn.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us, particularly as the university prepares to launch the Jackson School of Global Affairs next fall. I look forward to working closely with the other APSIA deans and leadership,” he added.

Created in 1989, APSIA is dedicated to the improvement of graduate education in international affairs. Over 65 graduate schools are currently members or affiliate members of APSIA; over half are based outside of the U.S., including in Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

In addition to strengthening and promoting leading graduate schools of international affairs, APSIA offers prospective and current graduate students a wealth of resources throughout the year, including funding, job and event opportunities. Read more on apsia.org.

About the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs

The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs promotes education and scholarship on global affairs at Yale. The institute is home to Yale’s master’s program in global affairs, a master of advanced study in global affairs and the undergraduate major in global affairs. Jackson’s interdisciplinary academic programs inspire and prepare Yale students for global leadership and service.

In April 2019, the Yale Board of Trustees approved the transformation of the Jackson Institute into a school. The Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs will be the first professional school created at Yale since 1976. The trustees have targeted the fall of 2022 for the opening of the school.
