Description:
The Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy presents a conversation with historian Elizabeth Ingleson. In her new book, Made in China: When US-China Interests Converged to Transform Global Trade (Harvard University Press), Ingleson reexamines two of the most significant transformations of the 1970s: US-China rapprochement and deindustrialization in the United States. Drawing on Chinese- and English-language sources, including previously unexplored corporate papers, she shows how the interests of US business and the Chinese state aligned to reframe the China market.
A scholar of US foreign relations, Ingleson specializes in the histories of US-China relations, capitalism, and labor. She is an assistant professor in international history at the London School of Economics. Ingleson will be joined by Arne Westad, Director of the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy and Elihu Professor of History and Global Affairs.
