Description:

The Jackson School Office of Alumni Affairs will host a discussion on judiciary reform in Mexico with Juan Carlos Salamanca MA ’21 and Santiago Oñate LLM ’19, moderated by María José Ramírez Rosaslanda MPP ’24.

Juan Carlos Salamanca is a Mexican lawyer and a Jackson alumnus who specializes in constitutional law, digital rights and tech policy. Since graduating from Yale, Juan Carlos has worked as a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of Mexico, under Justice Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá. There, he has drafted legal opinions and positions on diverse topics, including judicial review, national security, privacy rights and freedom of expression.

Santiago Oñate is a Mexican Lawyer with an LLM degree from Yale Law School and an LLB from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. He is currently a senior associate at Galicia Abogados’ Civil & Commercial Litigation and Arbitration practice. Before joining Galicia, Santiago clerked for Justice José Ramón Cossío Díaz at the Supreme Court of Justice.

María José Ramírez Rosaslanda is a senior associate at DGA Group based in Mexico City. Before joining DGA, Ramírez served in the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs. She began her career as an advisor at the Chief of Staff Office, analyzing political landscapes in Latin America and organizing high-profile diplomatic events. Later, as a director at the Office of the Secretary, she oversaw strategic programs to foster international cooperation and economic development.
