Meet the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs World Fellows from Latin America as they discuss the challenges that Latin America currently faces and how to get involved to transform their regions through politics, activism, technology and science.

Leticia Jáuregui: Gender equality advocate and expert in capital markets, climate change, and critical minerals, aiming for a just transition. As Meta’s Global Head of Education Partnerships, she managed an immersive education fund, and she founded Crea to support women entrepreneurs in Mexico and Central America. A Kauffman Fellow and Forbes-recognized leader, she serves on boards across multiple regions and is involved in creative knitting exhibitions. https://worldfellows.yale.edu/person/leticia-jauregui-casanueva/

Gonzalo Moratorio: Head of the Experimental Evolution of Viruses Lab at the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo and Associate Professor at the University of the Republic in Uruguay. With over 15 years of experience in molecular and evolutionary virology, he has made significant contributions to viral evolution and applied virology, including developing RNA synthetic viruses as vaccines. Elected to the UNESCO International Basic Science Program Board in 2021, he advocates for basic research in Latin America and has gained media recognition, hosting a children’s science education show since 2024. https://worldfellows.yale.edu/person/gonzalo-moratorio/

Gabriel Silva: Former Panamanian Congressman, recognized as one of the youngest, most voted, and most productive lawmakers. He has championed anti-corruption measures, educational reform, and economic development, authoring key laws such as Panama’s Sexual Education Law and Mental Health Law. A leader of the Independent Caucus, he co-founded the VAMOS grassroots movement, training independent candidates in evidence-based policy, now the biggest opposition movement in Panama. Gabriel is also a co-founder of Teach for Panama and several NGOs focused on education and youth empowerment, and is the only Panamanian politician to publicly support the LGBTQ+ community. https://worldfellows.yale.edu/person/gabriel-silva/
