Description:
Join the Colloquium in International Security Studies for a presentation by Kissinger Visiting Scholars Predoctoral Fellow Ruoyu Li. A PhD candidate in Political Science at Johns Hopkins University, she is writing a dissertation that traces how U.S. nuclear tests in the Pacific Ocean instantiated military imperialism and triggered indigenous antinuclear and de-colonial movements.
Li will present “Challenging the Nuclear Test-Use Binary.” This chapter of her dissertation challenges the exclusion of nuclear testing from the definition of nuclear use in the field of International Relations. Using U.S. nuclear testing in the Pacific Proving Grounds, 1946-62, Li argues that weapons testing is a form of usage.
This event is open to the Yale community; lunch will be provided. Please email kaete.oconnell@yale.edu to receive the reading materials for this colloquium.
