Join the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy and European Horizons for a compelling conversation with 2024 World Fellows Laura Krause and Anna Biryukova as they explore the transformative power of public opinion polls. The discussion will be moderated by Avi Ross ’25 and Liana Schmitter-Emerson ’25.

Laura Krause is the founding director of More in Common Germany, an organization dedicated to understanding and addressing the forces dividing democracies and countering divisive “us vs. them” narratives. As a member of the organization’s international executive team, Laura collaborates with colleagues across France, Poland, the UK, and the US. A leading expert on polarization and social cohesion, Laura advises civil society organizations, political institutions, and initiatives around the world. Her expertise also informs her role on the oversight board of Germany’s largest public broadcaster, ZDF, as well as her involvement with German philanthropy and public administration.

Anna Biriukova is the head of public opinion research at the Anti-Corruption Foundation (ACF), Russia’s most prominent opposition organization, founded by Alexey Navalny. Anna began working with Navalny during his 2013 campaign for Mayor of Moscow and has since led independent, unbiased nationwide polls and focus groups, often under extraordinary pressure from Putin’s regime. In 2019, Anna was forced to flee Russia after her work was deemed “terrorist and extremist” by the authorities. Despite living in exile in Lithuania, she continues her critical research, running dozens of nationwide polls annually. The data she collects is vital to the ACF’s strategic fight against the Putin regime.
