Trade, climate, and global strategy took center stage October 6–9, 2025, as Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs partnered with Spain’s IE University School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs for a four-day dialogue, Workshop on Global Order: Leadership for Times of Change.
The event brought more than two dozen Spanish journalists, academics, business leaders, and government officials to Jackson for conversations with faculty members from across Yale. Highlights included discussions on China’s global influence with Hanscom Smith, Jackson Senior Fellow and former consul general in Hong Kong and Shanghai; restructuring global supply chains with Yale economist Penny Goldberg; and conflict in the Middle East with Jackson Senior Fellow Robert Malley.
Participants enriched the discussions with reflections by sharing perspectives drawn from their own professional experience.
“The world is in turmoil — and workshops like this help move the needle in a better direction,” said James Levinsohn, dean of the Yale Jackson School. “Bringing together people who work in a number of different sectors, who bring a wide range of experiences, can only be a good thing.”
This event was part of an ongoing collaboration between the Yale Jackson School and IE University. In spring 2025, Jackson and IE — along with Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs — organized the latest iteration of the Transatlantic Bridge Conference, which brings together global leaders in policy, academia, and diplomacy to discuss the future of the transatlantic relationship.
“We’ve been partners [with Jackson] for a number of years,” said Manuel Muñiz, provost of IE University, “in an effort to build a transatlantic community. This dialogue brought experts from across Europe to Jackson to learn more about global politics and the state of the U.S. — as well as provide an American perspective in global affairs — which will continue to help build that bridge across continents.”
