Alejandro Rojas (MY’ 26) is a global affairs major concurrently pursuing certificates in the Global Health Studies program and the German language. Through his study of health policy and economics, he hopes to discover sustainable solutions that leverage the resources of political and financial institutions to address equity challenges at a community level. His interest in community health began during the summer of 2020 when he founded Prep4Change and partnered with community-based organizations to address growing food and housing insecurity in Washington, D.C., ultimately raising over $27,000 to be invested in local initiatives. For the past two summers, Alejandro has worked for a healthcare consulting startup and its non-profit arm on projects ranging from assessing early diagnosis barriers/economic burdens experienced by under-represented patient groups with rare neurological diseases to developing a national data-sharing platform amongst clubhouses targeting populations with severe mental illness. In working with clients from big tech/big pharma to foundations and community health workers, he has learned that the road to sustainable health equity will be paved by strategic partnerships, innovative data generation, and community engagement. On campus, Alejandro is the president of the Yale Black Men’s Union, through which he revived the Bouchet Mentorship Program at Conte West Middle School. He is also a member of the Yale club soccer team, a singer in the Yale Gospel Choir, and a reporter for the Yale Daily News. In his free time, Alejandro enjoys grabbing a meal with friends, songwriting, and hiking.
