Axel Herrera Ramos is a joint MPP/MBA degree candidate at the Jackson School of Global Affairs and the Yale School of Management. His interests focus on scaling the impact of new technologies for sustainable energy and climate solutions, as well as understanding the social and political implications of supporting international communities displaced by changing climate conditions and disasters.

Before Yale, Axel dedicated five years to his home state of North Carolina, focusing on college access, civic education, and community organizing. He directly served rural local families and developed youth and staff leadership capacity for civic engagement. In his previous role as civic engagement director for the North Carolina office of Mi Familia Vota, he launched the organization's inaugural voter registration and get-out-the-vote campaigns targeting Latino voters across the state. He also mentored two fellowship cohorts focused on addressing environmental justice in their North Carolina communities through direct legislative advocacy and community engagement. In Durham, North Carolina, Axel further served his community as chair of the Durham Participatory Budget Steering Committee and advocated for public schools as a member of the Durham Public Schools Foundation board.

A first-generation college student, Axel was born in Honduras and has called North Carolina home since 2005. He graduated with a bachelor’s in economics from Duke University. As an immigrant and DACA recipient, he is deeply passionate about immigrant justice, striving to create spaces that uplift immigrant voices to challenge narratives and promote more inclusive policy solutions.
