Cheney Wen, from Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, is a J.D./M.P.P. candidate at Yale Law School and Jackson School of Global Affairs.

At YLS, he hopes to develop the expertise in international, constitutional, national security and foreign relations law necessary to be an effective legal policy adviser and national security specialist for Taiwan. At Jackson, he intends to focus on international security issues, Taiwan-U.S.-China relations, and the study of American grand strategy as it pertains to China. He hopes to use his Yale experience to promote Taiwan’s interests while working in the U.S. and Taiwan.

Before attending Yale, Cheney worked on the presidential campaign of Taiwan President Lai Ching-te where his responsibilities included writing speeches, translating materials such as the acceptance speeches of President Lai and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, interpreting for party supervisors in meetings with foreign delegations, and helping arrange the candidates’ interviews with the foreign press. Before joining the campaign, he had interned and worked in the Legislative Yuan, Taiwan’s parliament, for a lawmaker on the Foreign and National Defense Committee.

Cheney graduated first in class from Taiwan’s National Chengchi University with a dual bachelor’s degree in diplomacy and Korean. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, English and Korean, and is studying Japanese at Yale.
