Derek Song (PC '25) is a Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major from Hinsdale, Illinois. He is interested in studying how language barriers in global health can be navigated while still respecting and preserving the existence of less-spoken dialects. In addition, he wants to examine the intersections of technology, healthcare, and politics to understand ways in which essential diagnostic services can be made more accessible. At Yale, Derek plays viola in the Yale Symphony Orchestra and is involved with Club Swimming, the Yale Undergraduate Research Association, Bridges ESL, and Sigma Chi. He also volunteers for the HAVEN Free Clinic and conducts bioinformatics research in the lab of Jeffrey P. Townsend. In his free time, you can find him longboarding around New Haven.
