Fauziya Abdi Ali is an undergraduate capstone faculty member at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs (2020-2021). She is the president of Women in International Security (WIIS) Horn of Africa (HoA) and a devoted advocate for women peace builders in peace and security efforts across the region. Prior to WIIS-HoA, she worked on the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) by the New Partnership for Africa (NEPAD) Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee (HSGIC), an instrument for monitoring performance in governance among African Union Member States.

Following the APRM process, Fauziya continued to lead a number of initiatives in governance and peace-building. She was the deputy chief of party for Somalia’s largest stabilization program. She later spearheaded projects in preventing violent extremism at UNDP Regional office for Africa, producing works such as the “Journey to extremism” Africa study, and CVE mobile application for Africa tackling extremist narratives, both of which were excellently reviewed.

Due to her work in prevention efforts focusing on women, she was named a “leading woman” in 2018 by News Deeply, a 2019 “woman to watch” by Voice of America (VoA), and has a number of awards including the SERAS award for Africa, and the UN SDG Pioneer award amongst others.

She is currently part of the inaugural Paris Peace Forum, steering committee under the auspices of President Emanuel Macron of France and an evaluating Judge for the Larsen Lam Iconiq impact awards under the MacArthur Foundation.
