Hana Soma is an MPP candidate at the Jackson School of Global Affairs, focusing her studies on exploring and applying sociocultural anthropological approaches to diplomacy in practice.
Prior to attending Yale, Hana worked in the International Trade Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in the area of multilateral economic diplomacy. She was involved in Japan’s contributions to various international trade-related fora, coordinating domestically with other ministries and internationally with relevant countries.
Hana received an MPP from the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Public Policy, where she studied the practical aspects of policymaking across a breadth of policy areas in Japan, graduating as Outstanding Student. She received a bachelor’s degree in international relations with first-class honors at King’s College London in its Department of War Studies, where she pursued a multidisciplinary approach consisting of studying international relations theory, political thought and ethics, alongside security strategy.
