Lily Ates (PC’25) is an Economics Major from Timonium, Maryland. Having grown up outside Baltimore where a difference of as little as four miles creates a nearly 20-year gap in life expectancy, her interest in global health lies in addressing social determinants of health at their root and combatting healthcare inequity through policy and reform. She has worked at the Johns Hopkins Center for Law and the Public’s Health and as a Tobin Undergraduate Research Assistant for YSPH Professor Abigail Friedman, studying the relationship between smoking regulations and utilization of mental health and substance abuse treatment. On campus, Lily is a part of Yale Votes, on the Shareholder Engagement Team of Dwight Hall Socially Responsible Investment Fund, a First-Year Outdoor Orientation Trip (FOOT) Leader, and a member of the Yale Alpine Ski Team. In her free time, Lily enjoys baking, reading, and signing very off-key.
