Mai Truong received her BA in International Studies at the University of California, San Diego in 2006. After college, she spent one year in Uganda volunteering with grassroots development organizations and traveling around East and Southern Africa. Thereafter, she interned at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC and worked as the Educational Outreach Coordinator at Action Against Hunger–USA in New York City. At Yale, Mai focused her studies on US foreign policy and international development; she plans on pursuing a career in the field of international development after graduation.
