Oliver Smith is a first-year MPP student at the Jackson School of Global Affairs studying the intersection of climate and foreign policy with a focus on how geopolitics is shaping the climate challenge.
Prior to Jackson, Oliver worked at Third Generation Environmentalism, a transatlantic think tank at the forefront of climate policy. While there, he worked as a researcher on a range of international climate challenges, from the negotiations on the Loss and Damage Fund within the UNFCCC to the U.S.’s approach to climate and foreign policy. He supported coalitions on climate justice issues and worked to convene experts on how climate change was shaping geopolitics. Oliver also looked at the interactions between existing international frameworks and climate change policy, co-authoring a report with Mistra Geopolitics on the intersection of debt and climate resilience.
Oliver holds a bachelor’s degree in international and area studies from Washington University in St. Louis with a minor in German.
