Owen Hathaway Hacker is a junior in Silliman College studying history with a focus on international and diplomatic history. He is a student fellow with the National Institute of Military Justice, an NGO aimed at promoting the fair administration of the law in the armed forces, through which he is researching and planning to attend the military tribunal proceedings on Guantanamo Bay. Last summer, he worked at a public policy consulting firm advising companies on various multinational projects. These experiences have reinforced his interest in national security law and in understanding how its inadequacy has and continues to undermine U.S. influence and moral leadership abroad. Owen has also spent time working in local politics, both as a volunteer for New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker and as an intern for Connecticut State Representative Roland Lemar. He has worked at Yale Law School as a research assistant to Professor John Witt and serves as an undergraduate editor for the Yale Law Journal. Owen is the captain of Yale’s Ultimate Frisbee team and a barista at the Silliman student-run café, the Acorn.
