Parmees Fazeli (DC ‘26) is from Syracuse, New York, majoring in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology and pursuing certificates in advanced language studies in Spanish and global health studies. Her interest in global health began in high school while shadowing a mentor in underserved areas in Iran. Her work as a Spanish and Farsi interpreter and health navigator at the Upstate Institute for Global Health, where she helped devise refugee health literacy assessment tools for newly arrived refugee families, reaffirmed her passion for global health with a focus on refugee health. She is currently working under the guidance of Dr. David Rimm in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine on new technologies to diagnose, stage, and treat human cancers in response to new checkpoint inhibitor treatments. Parmees is hoping to pursue a career as a physician-scientist, focusing on the interface between basic science research and clinical medicine, while also addressing healthcare disparities in the field. She is an active member of the Public Health Coalition at Yale, where she helps organize community wellness projects as part of the community outreach branch in the greater New Haven area. She also serves as a board officer for the Persian Students Association, where she organizes cultural events on campus. In her spare time, you can find her planning movie nights or playing badminton in the Davenport Courtyard with friends.
