Sofia Ginard Ramírez is a Master in Public Policy (MPP) candidate at Yale’s Jackson School of Global Affairs, where she plans to focus on good governance, the effectiveness of sustainable development aid, and the environment. Her interest lies in leveraging international and national cooperation mechanisms to solve interdisciplinary global development issues, particularly in her home region of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
In her previous role as a program officer at the National Democratic Institute’s LAC team, Sofia supported implementing democracy and governance programs in Mexico, Guatemala and Central America funded by various U.S. and European government donors. Notably, she co-managed the organization’s program providing technical assistance in electoral observation methods and capabilities to Guatemalan civil society in the 2023 general elections. She also conducted gender and environmental assessments and led the monitoring and evaluation components of her assigned programs.
A first-generation college graduate, Sofia graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a double bachelor's degree in economics and Japanese language and culture from Wellesley College. There, she specialized her coursework and internship experiences in international development, including taking classes and co-leading projects at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology D-Lab.
