Sophia Azeb Berhie is originally from Huntington, West Virginia. At Yale her academic studies focused on human security in Sub-Saharan Africa. She drew on her coursework as a summer fellow at the U.S. Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Within Jackson, Sophia founded the Working Group on Race and Inclusion and served as a Senior Editor for the Yale Journal of International Affairs. On campus, Sophia spent her time serving as Treasurer of the Yale Black Graduate Network and working with undergraduate students as a Teaching Fellow. Before coming to Yale, Sophia worked as a researcher at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with a BS in Foreign Service and a Certificate in African Studies. In June, Sophia will join the U.S. Foreign Service.
