Yana Jayampathy (TC ’26) is a global affairs major on the pre-med track. She grew up in New York but is originally from Sri Lanka, where she was born. Yana’s experiences with the U.S. healthcare system growing up motivates her interest in the intersection between medicine and global health. She is eager to find sustainable solutions to bringing forth more equitable, affordable access to healthcare both in the U.S. and abroad. She is also interested in the role of governance and economics in global health, and in understanding how a region’s geopolitical contexts informs the quality of healthcare provided. She hopes to lead a career pursuing both medicine and healthcare policy. On campus, Yana enjoys working as a legislative fellow for the Yale College Democrats, where she has supported the passing of legislation pertaining to improving access to healthcare both in the state of Connecticut and at the national level. She also works as a communication and consent educator, interned with the Yale Global Health Leadership Initiative at the School of Public Health, and enjoys volunteering with New Haven Reads and Yale Community Kitchen. Most recently, she had the opportunity to intern with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, as a public policy engagement intern, working on advocacy at the country and regional level to strengthen immunization worldwide.
