Yongchan Seo is an MPP student at Jackson School of Global Affairs. He graduated from Korea Military Academy in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese regional studies and was commissioned as an infantry Lieutenant in the same year. Seo is still an active military officer as a Captain. For the first three years of his career, he served as a platoon leader and a battalion staff in the Demilitarized Zone where he learned the standard system of the Army. Later, he was posted overseas at US Army Garrison Japan (Camp Zama). It is during this period that he learned the concept and importance of international military cooperation. As military personnel, Seo has a great interest in global security problems, especially in the Pacific region. He also wishes to further his knowledge of the great power competition between the United States and China. After Yale, he will return to the South Korean Army.
